New Version of Word Galaxies Released

Just one week after the initial release of Word Galaxies, Pucker Up Games announced a new 1.1 version which contains some added features and fixes some issues on specific operating systems. This comes as a quick response to customer feedback received.

The major change in version 1.1 of Word Galaxies is automatic detection of widescreen displays. When a widescreen display is detected, Word Galaxies handles it gracefully, and does the right thing. Widescreens, which are becoming increasingly common, especially in new laptops, are designed for viewing DVDs without distortion. However, most games are designed to run at traditional desktop screen resolutions (1024×768). When these games are viewed on widescreen displays, they appear stretched horizontally, like pulled taffy, and require the user to intervene. Word Galaxies avoids this visual distortion by opting to run in windowed mode instead of fullscreen, preventing the so-called widescreen gaming problem from ruining a day of good fun.

Other changes in version 1.1 of Word Galaxies in include the fading in and out of music tracks when switching between other applications, and allowing users to type CMD-Q to quit the game at any time (Mac OS X only).

Word Galaxies is a family-friendly word game with beautiful graphics and over 9,000 challenging levels. Play Word Galaxies for free here.
